Alan Charlesworth is an established business advisor to the public sector as well as social enterprises. He helps such organisations realise their vision for commercial success and gain commitment from their management teams to implement market-based strategies successfully.

MAJOR ASSIGNMENTS

Sector Skills Council: Consultant

Alan worked on a range of projects connected with new commercial projects to offset reduced Government funding and to maintain its key role as a social enterprise

Government Agency: Interim Marketing Director

Alan developed new strategy to establish the Agency as staff provider of choice to other Government departments. Set the pricing policy and established a formal process for client account management Undertook contract negotiation with over 20 Government Departments and Agencies.

Government Agency: Interim Commercial Director

Alan undertook a major project with this Agency to restructure its commercial operations, involving the renegotiation publishing contracts for sale of books, DVDs and other training materials. A sales manager was appointed and bus driver monitoring and taxi driver testing services were launched.

A critical outcome was establishing the credibility of the commercial operations by aligning product quality assurance with the driving standards of the Agency.

Government Agency: Interim Marketing Director

Alan developed clear set of investment criteria for prioritisation of Agency business development projects and achieved corporate and divisional commitment to £2 million investment programme.
